SMAC is a unique veterinary clinic, one designed around our guests - pets and their people.
When you need us, we are here for you - whether your pup’s not feeling well, your parrot’s beak needs a trim, or your cat’s due for a vaccine.
We know it hasn’t always been fun to go to the vet, so we made our space intentionally warm and friendly, comforting to both pets and people.
Our SMAC care team takes the time to get to know you.
We incorporate a thoughtful, caring, and personal approach with best-in-class clinical knowledge - an approach designed by vets who want to make a difference to you and your pet. We are here to make your pet care an experience - not a chore - better for everyone, our guests, and our staff!
When you visit our uniquely designed centre, you’ll immediately sense something different about the environment we’ve created for you and our furry friends – we believe the health of humans and animals is strongly connected to their environment.
Separate entrances and separate waiting room areas.
Visits to the hospital can be stressful, for humans and pets alike. Our SMAC veterinarians have spent many years caring for animals of all demeanors and we want to make every visit as stress-free as possible. We started by creating separate dog, cat, and exotic pet entrances as well as completely separate spaces for canine, feline, and exotic pet care within our centre. When you visit, you'll notice the separate dog and cat waiting areas. This was purposefully designed to promote peace of mind for both you and your pet the minute you walk in our door. To prevent any stress-induced when animals come into contact with other unfamiliar animals, most guests are escorted directly to their private consultation room to minimize wait time. We also have separate cat and dog wards for any guest who may need a longer stay.
Cats, like dogs, have a powerful sense of smell. When they come into a space, the smell of dogs can induce a lot of stress. To alleviate that, and clean the air of animal smells, we made sure the air inside the clinic is exchanged frequently.
Separate cat, dog, and exotic pet consultation rooms.
When a doctor takes care of you, it’s a highly sensory experience — this is especially true for our furry friends who, as we know, have senses that make ours seem rather mundane.
That’s why our SMAC space was designed not only with separate entrances - but completely separate cat, dog and exotic pet consultation rooms - providing the best opportunity possible for you and your pet to relax while our team focuses on giving care and attention.
- Each room includes views outside at pet level – bringing the outside in - so no one feels “boxed in”.
- Those cold, slippery exam tables have given way to comfy couches and ottomans, to alleviate the fear associated with being lifted up and down from exam tables.
- For the animals who prefer to stay closer to the ground, we have yoga-type mats. All the furniture is positioned so you and your pet are close together.
Cats can be curious creatures. It’s one of the many things we love about them. But, it can be pretty challenging for them to come into a new environment and feel at ease. We created a space just for them worth exploring!
A compassion room that feels like home and not so much like a hospital.
Saying goodbye is never easy. Soothing music, soft lighting and a separate door that allows you to privately exit the building without having to interact with anyone as you leave - we know how difficult this is.
Calming music is played in the animal wards to help lower their stress during their stay.
It is well-documented that calming sounds and soft music help to relieve stress in humans and animals alike. Our wards are filled with soothing sounds to ensure your pet has the best possible chance to relax and recover to the fullest extent while they stay with us.
Dedicated dental & surgery suites.
You wouldn’t go to your doctor’s office to have your teeth cleaned and neither should your pet.
Our dedicated dental suite allows us to focus on your pet’s oral health bringing a smile to everyone’s face.
Every inch is designed to invite natural light inside.
Our pets adore the outside— and most of us don’t mind it either!
SMAC has been designed with the calm effects of natural light in mind. Everywhere you look, you are put at ease with windows that allow the light to elevate your mood. This feeling extends throughout - with glass windows set into the inner walls allowing sunlight to reach every corner. Daylighting provides the same healing benefits to animals that it does to humans. Animals in a closed, windowless environment don’t recover as quickly, and dogs notably have a faster recovery process when they have a window.
Watching the bananaquits in the window garden has become everyone’s fave pastime!
Our flooring.
Everyone has seen a puppy trying to “find their feet” or an older pet struggling with mobility on a slippery floor. Non-slip, cushioned flooring for pets is essential – think yoga goes to the beach! Good grip, traction, and a softer surface help “everyone” feel comfortable, steady and confident. Our flooring was developed in partnership with Canine Arthritis Management (CAM) specifically for pets – and we love it!
All five senses were considered when designing our centre to create a calming, natural space - and we have more ideas still to come!
